Wilbur Lee Thompson, 81, of Indianola passed away on March 4, 2021. Inurnment will take place at 1:00pm, Saturday, March 13, 2021 at I.O.O.F Cemetery in Indianola. \r\nWilbur was born September 29, 1939 to Walter and Helen (Laughlin) Thompson. He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1958. After high school, he joined the United States Army Reserves. Wilbur worked in factories, Thompson's Lawn Service, and eventually retired in 1992 from Indianola School District. In retirement, Wilbur kept busy making bird houses for the farmers market, and exercising at the YMCA. He loved to square dance, go camping, and spend time with his family and his dogs. Wilbur was a man who was always willing to help others. \r\nWilbur is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Benge) Thompson of Indianola, sons; Wilbur Jr., Daniel, and Rodney, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. \r\nWilbur was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Donald, George, and Robert, sisters; Marybell Hanka and Jude Sackett, and his granddaughter, Ashley. \r\nMemorials in Wilbur's name can be made to the American Heart Association.
