Mariya Mikhaylovna Abaras was accepted into the loving arms of the Lord on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the age of 62. Her final moments on Earth were spent in Tidewell Hospice in Venice, Florida surrounded by family members after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.\r\nMariya was born to Varvara and Michael Rutkovskiy on August 23, 1959 in Zarasai, Lithuania. During her school years she excelled in all of her required studies, but especially in languages. At the age of 17 she devoted her life to her Savior, Jesus Christ, and service to others. She loved music, poetry, and nature. She wrote Christian poems that are included in the book Christian Poems by Christian Poets, a compilation of Russian poems by Pavel Romanchik. Every night Mariya would gather all of her children to sing songs and read stories. \r\nOn June 6, 1981 she was married to Aleksandr Abaras and they spent 40 years together. They were blessed with eight children and twenty grandchildren. \r\nIn 2001, the Abaras family immigrated from Latvia to the US, where they continue to reside. Mariya was a hard working employee of the Matsu Borough School District from 2002 until 2021. \r\nMariya was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. At Church, she was always eager to participate in choir and the worship of God. During her free time she busied herself composing encouraging cards, which were sent to many individuals. Her generosity and helpfulness, along with the way she donated her time and resources to the needs of others will always be remembered.\r\nMariya leaves behind her loving husband, Aleksandr; children, Paul and Vera Aberson, Peter and Anna Abaras, John and Malvina Aziza, Anatolijs Zozula, Ruvim Abaras, Ted and Veronika Ilnitsky, Yevgeniy Abaras and Brianna Andrade, Yelena Abaras and Paul Paris; and many grandchildren and friends. She will be greatly missed by her husband, children, and grandchildren.\r\nViewing will be held on Friday, February 4, 2022 from 6-9 P.M. at Peterson Funeral Home in Indianola. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the International Christian Church. Interment will follow the service at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Indianola.
