James Richard Shipman passed away on March 28, 2022 in Carlisle, Iowa. A memorial funeral service for Jim will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2020 at 2:00pm at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will begin at 1:00pm prior to the service.\r\nJim was born on October 9, 1956 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Mervin "Dick" and Helen (Kenney) Shipman. He was a loving father, grandpa, great-grandpa, and son. Jim enjoyed fishing as well as listening to jazz and rock-n-roll. He loved eating cherries with his granddaughters of whom he cherished. He also was the best at board games and would always get the best of his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughters. He also loved tinkering on cars, computers, and watches. He lived life in the fast lane with his motorcycle. He found nothing better than drinking a Mt. Dew and watching N.C.I.S. Jim always put others' needs before his own. He could always be found with his dog, Trixie who he dearly loved. Jim worked as an engineer with the Des Moines Register. He was the kindest and most open-hearted man you could ever hope to meet. He loved making jokes and seeing other people laugh. His favorite saying was "You'll have that". Jim lived a hard life but he made it the best he could. \r\nJim is survived by his ex-wife, Cheryl Dady; children, Jason, Amanda, and James Jr.; grandchildren, Britney, Haley, Jayla, and Layla; siblings, Samuel Shipman, Rocky Shipman, and Melody Jones; and many cousins.\r\nJim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Delbert Shipman, and many aunts and uncles. \r\nIn lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family.
