Bruce Gaffey passed away on October 2, 2016 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Bruce Edward Gaffey was born on October 1, 1929 to Louis Edward Gaffey and Harriett Jane Hansell at Storm Lake, Iowa\nHe attended Alta Consolidated School graduating in 1947. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951. Following his discharge in 1953 he joined the family at the farm near St. Mary's, Iowa. Bruce worked heavy construction equipment for Gordon McLeod and later worked in the parts department of the local John Deere Implement for Don Kern and later for Dick Zahn. Bruce retired from there to farm the family farm.\nBruce was united in marriage to Mary Ann Carter on November 25, 1956. To this union one son Steven Lee was born. On February 14, 1962 Bruce was united in marriage to Phyllis Weakland Dolph.\nBruce is survived by his sisters, Margaret Weber of Storm Lake, Myra (Don) Hewitt of Indianola and Joanne (Eldon) Appenzeller of Indianola; sisters in law, Elano Gaffey of Alta and Sandra Gaffey of Indianola, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Steven Lee, wife Phyllis; brothers, James and Paul and sister Josephine Heller Burns. \nFuneral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Indianola First United Methodist Church with a visitation beginning at 9:00 AM. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery\n \nIn lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Kiya Koda Humane Society.
