Larry Edwin McCauley Obituary (1935 - 2018)

LARRY EDWIN MCCAULEY Carlisle, Iowa Larry was born on a snowy January day in 1935 in rural Clarke County, Iowa. His father fetched the doctor on horseback, and his mother gave birth to the first of their five children that day. At the ripe old age of 16, Larry met the love of his life, Shirley, at the Chariton movie theater where she was employed as the popcorn girl. Through nearly 60 years of marriage, they raised three children in Carlisle, doted on seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, and made countless life-long friendships. Larry was charming, witty, kind, a great listener, and one heck of a siding salesman. Like most guys who grew up on a farm, he could fix anything. He often remarked he was the best looking guy in his class. (Of the four graduates from Lucas High School that year, three were girls.) Besides Shirley, his other passion in life was golf, and he could be frequently found at the Pleasantville Golf Course with his golfing buddies. Until the very end, he was making new friends at The Village in Indianola. He passed away with his daughters by his side October 4 after suffering a massive stroke. Larry will be greeted in Heaven by his wife, Shirley; son, Douglas McCauley; parents, Virgil and Mildred McCauley; and brother, Ronald McCauley. He will be dearly missed by his daughters, Deborah (Greg) Peterson and Denise McCauley; grandchildren Jeff (Angie) Peterson, Alex (Melissa) Peterson, Evan (Anastasia) Peterson, Ann (Joe) Hugen, Ryan (Brooke) McCauley, Cole (Kelli) McCauley, and Sam McCauley; brother Robert (Dorothy) McCauley; sisters Marilyn Fletchall and Carolyn Verde; numerous beloved relatives, and the many friends he made along the way. A Celebration of Life will be held at Peterson's Funeral Home in Carlisle, Wednesday, October 10, from 11am to 1pm. Please join us to share some lunch and a story or two. A Memorial Service will be held at The Village in Indianola on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 3pm. Larry enjoyed giving to the Good Samaritan/Good Shepherd Fund at Wesley Life in Indianola, and you may direct any contributions in his honor their way.
