A. Gardner Obituary (2014) - Indianola, Iowa

Richard A. Gardner, 81 passed away of Pneumonia and a bad hear t May 25, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Richard was born to Evert and Delsie (Lotz)) Gardner on December 29, 1932. Richard graduated from Hartford High School in 1952 and spent 2 years in the United States Army in Alaska. Richard worked for Iowa Power and Light company for 20 years and retired in 1972 after a heart attack. He loved to work in his garden and going camping. Dick is survived by his wife of 57 years, Charlotte; sons, Richard (Paula), Raymond (Margaret); five grandchildren including, Ryan and Kindra Gardner and Ritchie Fetters; four great grandchildren, Derrek Gardner, Trenton, Austin and Samantha; brother; Martin, sisters; LaVerla (Jerry) Comegys, Kathryn McCann, Ann McCann, Tooie (Gene) Gardner and several nieces, nephews and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Elmer, sister, Marilyn Spaur, brothers in law; George and Jack McCann. Richard's wishes were to be cremated. Memorial services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Peterson Funeral Home in Carlisle. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to services.
